More often than not, people regret making mediocre purchases in haste. Instead, I suggest getting decent speakers to start, and then getting others when your funds/budget allows. It sounds like you ahve a budget for speakers and are trying to get the whole package for a little budget. However, might I suggest perhaps trying to get better speakers.

Go try to find a true 3 way bookshelf speaker, which is bi-amp and bi-wired capable, with a real wood enclosure and an 8" driver and you'll find there's not many speakers made like these. If you're an audiophile over the age of 35, you likely know these bad boys.
